We stayed the first night in Portland, and then we drove to Seaside, where the kids finally got to play on the beach! They loved the sand, and even though it was chilly they were out playing in the waves.
The rest of us tried to stay warm in the ocean breeze! The babies did great, although I don't know if they really appreciated the beautiful scenery.
Seaside also had a great aquarium. We got to feed seals, and there was a really cool octopus. The kids got to touch sea urchins and starfish.
Sarah has been learning about Lewis and Clark in school, so she was excited to find a statue in Seaside that marked the end of their journey.
Seaside also had some fun carnival rides, and we tried out the bumper cars.
After we finished touring around Seaside we drove about 20 minutes to Astoria. This was another beautiful coast town. Right outside our hotel were several docks which are apparently the home to dozens of sea lions!
The next day we drove down the coast. We stopped at Cannon beach and let the kids play for a while. There is a beautiful outcropping of rock there called Haystack rock.
The kids(and Chad) had fun building an awesome sand castle.
After a little bit more drive time we stopped at the Tilamook cheese factory. We saw the cheese being packaged, and got some samples. We also ate wonderful cheeseburgers, although none of us were brave enough to face the huge line for ice cream! The squeaky cheese was a big hit, though!
The next day we started our long trip home. We stopped at the Multanomah water falls, and hiked up a little way. It's a beautiful spot right outside of Portland.
Overall, this was just a great trip. We did a lot of driving, but the kids broke it up with lots of DVDs, and the adults chatted and discussed politics over the walkie talkies. The babies spent a lot of time in their car seats, but they did great. It was a trip worth taking, and we made many great memories!

Ah im so excited Ian and I are going to be doing almost the exact same trip in about 12 days!! It looks like fun!
Wow that trip looks like tons of fun. That octupus is way creepy and scary! Probably almost as scary as a long drive with politics as the discussion topic...
